A three-year-old boy drowned at 6 p.m. Saturday in a backyard pool near Tatum Boulevard and Doubletree Road.
The child and his family were visiting the home. Paradise Valley police say pillars near the pool may have obstructed the view of adults.
The boy's mother saw the child lying at the bottom of the pool and dove in to rescue him. It's believed the child was submerged for at least five minutes.
Later Saturday, rescue crews rushed to a home near 59th Avenue and Camelback Road, where a six-year-old boy was discovered unresponsive in a pool.
He had been attending a family gathering.
The child was taken to a local hospital where he died.
