A 29-year-old man drowned in the Salt River on Saturday, the first drowning of the summer season, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.
The unidentified man and two friends were swimming across the river near Granite Reef Dam about 2 p.m when he told his friends ''he could not make it," Sgt. Don Rosenberger said. His friends then lost sight of the man, Rosenberger said. Alcohol was a factor, Rosenberger said.
