A 28-year-old man drowned while swimming with friends in the Salt River on Sunday after he got caught in the swift current.
The unidentified man, a Palestinian native who was living in the Valley, was taken to Valley Lutheran Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Maricopa County sheriff's Sgt. David Trombi said the victim was swimming with several friends near Coon Bluff when he became caught in the current around 2:15 p.m.
The victim's friends pulled him from the water and administered CPR but were unable to revive him, Trombi said.
Investigators are trying to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, he said.
The drowning was the third this year on county lakes. Four others have been killed in boating accidents since January.
