A 2-year-old boy rushed to a Valley hospital Saturday after being found unconscious in a backyard pool in Scottsdale remains in critical condition.
The toddler was found in the pool at a home near 85th Street and McDowell Road at about 12:45 p.m.
According to Tiffani Nichols with the Scottsdale Fire Department, CPR was performed on the child before firefighters arrived.
The toddler was unresponsive and transported to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix.
Nichols said paramedics were able to get a pulse, but the child's condition is unknown at this time.
"We are cautiously optimistic," said Nichols.
Nichols said the child may have between in the water between three and five minutes.
Nichols says the child's mother left the boy in the yard while she went inside to the bathroom. The pool does not have any fence or barrier.
The family has been renting the home for approximately six months, according to Nichols. The mother and son were the only people home at the time of the incident.
