A 12-month-old boy died Wednesday morning after he wandered outside through an arcadia door, through an unlocked fence and into a residential pool.
Rural/Metro Fire Department responded to the drowning call about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at 13306 E. Cindy St., spokesman Colin Williams said.
Christopher Wellcome .Tr. was taken by helicopter to Desert Samaritan Hospital's pediatric intensive care unit, Williams said.
He died about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Maricopa County Sheriff's's Deputy Dave Moyer said.
The child's father said he was distracted by a phone call, but he didn't know how long the boy was in the water.
