An 18-month-old Peoria boy was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after he nearly drowned in the family's pool.
Ryan Malles was under water for five to 10 minutes before he was pulled out by his father, Christopher, who found him floating face-down about 2:15 p.m. in the 8800 block of West Betty Elise Drive.
''He got out of his house through an open sliding-glass door and got into the pool, which had a fence around it,'' Peoria Fire Department spokesman Michael Tellef said. He said it was unclear how the child got past the fence.
