An 8-month-old girl nearly drowned in 6 inches of water Thursday after her mother left her in the bathtub with an older sibling, authorities say.Shilynn McCluskey was blue and not breathing when her mother found her about 11:40 a.m., Iying on her side in the water, Mesa Fire Capt. Ivard Brimley said.
The girl's mother had put Shilynn and her 2-year-old sister in the tub after the older girl painted both children with nail polish, Brimley said. The mother then left the girls for "less than a minute" to clean up the polish on the floor.
Brimley said the mother heard water running and rushed back into the bathroom. She pulled the baby from the tub and was able to get her breathing before firefighters arrived.
Shilynn was taken to Desert Samaritan Medical Center, where she was to be held overnight for observation.
