The man who drowned while trying to swim in a Phoenix canal Monday afternoon has been identified as Bladimiro Infante.
Infante, who was in his mid 30s, entered the water near 67th Avenue and Buckeye Road to go swimming at about 5 p.m. The current swept him down the canal, police reported.
The Phoenix Fire Department removed him from the canal a few hundred yards down from where Infante entered.
A passerby told Phoenix Fire officials that he threw Infante a hose but he was unable to hold on as the current pulled him, police reported.
