A Phoenix man seemed lucky to be alive Sunday night after accidentally falling into his brother's pool, a Phoenix fire spokeswoman said.
The 57-year-old man was sweeping around his brother's backyard pool near North 16th Street and Bethany Home Road at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday when the head of the sweeper fell off.
When the man reached for the head of the sweeper, he fell into the pool and hit his head, Capt. Shelly Jamison said.
The man's brother, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, jumped into the pool after watching his brother struggle to get his head above water.
He managed to hoist his brother out of the pool with one arm, Jamison said.
Firefighters arrived to find the 57-year-old in critical condition. He was taken to Phoenix Baptist Hospital for treatment.
