A 22-year-old man with a history of medical problems and seizures was pulled from a hot tub by a maintenance worker at a trailer park east of Mesa at about noon Wednesday and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

It was unclear if Lonnie Copley drowned or if a medical emergency contributed to his death, said Battalion Chief Pete Zick of the Rural/Metro Fire Department.

Copley's parents were staying with his grandparents at the trailer park and he had been using the Jacuzzi before the maintence worker found him floating face-down, said Detective Aaron Douglas, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Zick said Copley's cause of death won't be known until an autopsy by the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Firefighters responded in about three minutes from a nearby fire station, Zick said. When they arrived in the 300 block of South Signal Butte Road, people at the park were performing CPR, but no one was able to restore a heartbeat, he said.

Copley was taken to Mountain Vista Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Zick said.
