A 2-year-old Laveen boy drowned Saturday morning at his home.
Parents called the fire department at about 8 a.m. after finding the boy at the bottom of their pool. He had been missing for 10 minutes.
The boy was airlifted from his home near 51st Ave. and Baseline Road to St. Joseph's Hospital
"They tried their best to do what they could but they ended up pronouncing him dead," said Captain Hugh Chase of the Phoenix Fire Department.
The house was up to code, but did not have a secondary pool fence, according to Chase.
The death was the Valley's 21st drowning this year. Seven have been children, all in residential pools.
"They've all been residential pools, whether apartment, condo or home," Chase said.
