A 17-year-old Phoenix boy drowned Tuesday when he stepped off a ledge while wading in the water at Lake Pleasant. The body of Timothy Harris Jr. was recovered by sheriff's divers from water about 17 feet deep, said a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Harris and an uncle were wading in waist-deep water when the boy started walking away from shore. About 25 feet from shore, he stepped off the ledge, floundered and slipped into the deep.
The uncle and two passers-by made unsuccessful attempts to rescue him. It's the third drowning in Maricopa County lakes or rivers this year.
