GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A Glendale toddler has been transported to a Phoenix hospital after he was found under water in a backyard pond.
According to Glendale Fire Department spokesman Wayne Smith, the boy's mother found him in a koi fish pond at the home near 71st and Maryland avenues.
She told officials the 18-month-old boy was blue and not breathing when she pulled him from the water.
A Glendale police officer at the scene told ABC15 that a fire department dispatcher talked the mother through CPR and the child began breathing and crying.
Smith said the child was crying as he was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.
A neighbor told ABC15 that the boy's mother was doing lawn work when she lost track of him.
There was a small fence around the pond but the child was able to get around it, according to Smith.
