A neighbor helped save a 5-year-old Mesa girl after she fell into a pool Monday.
Amanda Lorentzen was not breathing when her father pulled her out about 6:45 p.m. at their East Orion Street home. The neighbor, Mike Richie, performed CPR and got Lorentzen breathing before she was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Lorentzen was listed in fair condition.
Lorentzen's father was alerted to trouble when he only heard the voice of his 4-year-old daughter, who was at the pool with her sister. The father was on a patio next to the pool, reading a newspaper.
Mesa Deputy Fire Chief Mary Cameli said it is important to pay close attention to children near pools.
