Two residents have been honored by firefighters for saving the lives of toddlers in unrelated near drownings.
Ulbado Garcia, 29, and Brandi Jenkins, 13, were presented with life-saving awards Tuesday during a City Council meeting.
On Jan. 9, Garcia pulled a 1-year-old neighbor girl from a pool in the 7300 block of West Beryl Avenue. He acted quickly and performed CPR to restore her breathing.
On Feb. 14, Brandi noticed that her 11-month-old brother was missing and found him floating in the pool of the family home in the 7100 block of West Cameron Drive. She pulled him out and got him crying by pushing on his chest, causing him to cough up some water.
Neither child suffered permanent injury.
