A 5-year-old boy was pulled not breathing from a pool at a large backyard party Sunday night and was later pronounced dead.
Phoenix firefighters responded to the call near 24th Street and Thomas Road at about 11:30 p.m., said Capt. Alex Rangel, a spokesman for the Phoenix Fire Department.
Rangel said that crews responded within three minutes and found the boy not breathing or having a pulse.
He was taken to an area hospital but was pronounced dead once he arrived, Rangel said.
There was a party with about 70 people at the home at the time of the drowning.
Rangel said that when there is a party there should always be a designated pool watcher. "That person's only job is to watch the pool," Rangel said.
