An 11-month-old baby nearly drowned around 6 p.m. Monday in a pool in Maricopa near 2100 block Samsung Drive after his mother lost track of him.
The boy's mother pulled him out of the pool where he was submerged for approximately 1-2 minutes. His mother performed CPR back blows until the child started breathing and crying.
The mother then took him to an urgent care facility on John Wayne Parkway where he was transported to Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa as a precaution. He was reported to be breathing and alert.
Maricopa Police Officials say the mother appeared to have lost track of him for about five minutes and the incident is listed as accidental.
Arizona law requires swimming pools more then a foot and a half deep and 8 feet wide to be enclosed by a barrier at least 5 feet tall. Maricopa is in the process of adopting city code that would regulate pool barriers.
