A Phoenix family had a close call Wednesday afternoon when their 8-month-old child's tube briefly flipped over in a pool near 35th and Glendale avenues, authorities reported.
The child was breathing and in good condition when paramedics responded to the scene after getting the call at about noon, Phoenix Fire spokesman Courtney Jenkins said. While with his parent, the 8-month-old boy had dipped under water for a "very brief period," and the parent panicked, Jenkins said. The parent did not appear to be negligent, he said. Phoenix Fire recalled units that had been dispatched from the scene, but paramedics stayed on scene as a precaution.
There have been at least seven child drownings in the Valley since January.
