A 20-month-old girl, Haley Scranton, drowned Sunday night in her family's backyard pool, authorities said.
Haley slipped out of her family's home in the 4400 block of North 70th Avenue and into the pool around 5:45 p.m., Phoenix Fire Battalion Chief Gary Mager said. She was pulled out of the pool by her father, but was not given CPR until paramedics arrived, Mager said. The pool was not fenced, he said.
She was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
This is the 14th fatal drowning in Phoenix this year and the eighth involving a child younger than 5, Mager said.
