A 20-month-old girl almost drowned in her family's backyard pool Tuesday afternoon, according to the Mesa Police Department. The child gained access to the pool area, which was partially fenced, through an unlocked door in the master bedroom of the house. The girl was in the pool, which was only about one-fourth full because it was being drained, for about one minute when her father realized she was in the water, according to police reports.
The father was able to get the child breathing again with "back blows," according to police.
The Mesa Fire Department arrived on the scene in the 2000 block of North Lindsay Road to treat the girl and she was then transported to Banner Desert Medical Center to be assessed, according to police.
