A Glendale child was pulled from a pond early Monday morning and is in stable condition by Monday afternoon.
The victim, a 1-year-old boy, was found face down in a three-foot deep small pond in the backyard of a home near 84th Avenue and Marlette Road.
The child was being watched outside while the family members were working in the yard. They had lost the child for a couple of minutes before they realized he was in the pond and immediately called authorities.
Firefighters received the call at 11:23 a.m., and arrived on the scene at 11:25.
The boy was crying when they pulled him out and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.
“Many people associate barriers only with pool fences but a barrier should go around any body of water… especially when children are around,” Daniel Valenzuela of Glendale Fire Department said. “It literally takes a second for a child to drown.”
As of Monday afternoon the boy is said to be in stable condition.
