Alex Rangel with the Phoenix Fire Department said the 15-year-old, who has autism, was taking a bath at his home near 41st Avenue and Happy Valley Road.
"He is normally very independent, he showers and bathes on his own," said Rangel.
Rangel added that after the boy hadn’t been seen for seven minutes his father went to check on him to find him submerged in the tub.
"They checked on him and found him not breathing, pulseless under water," said Rangel.
The father reportedly started CPR and fire crews responded in less than two minutes.
"There exists the possibility he might have had a medical event, passed out and then fallen underneath the water," said Rangel.
The teen was transported by helicopter to St. Joseph's hospital where he later died.
