The 14-month-old girl found submerged in a pool Wednesday afternoon died later that night, Phoenix Fire Division Chief Bob Khan said.
Rosalinda Lopez was taken to Maricopa Medical Center after family members found her in the pool shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1700 block of Saint Charles Ave.
In a follow-up report, Tim Simmons of the Phoenix Fire Department, indicated that they believe the child gained access to the pool through a broken pool gate latch.
Rosalinda is the fourth drowning victim - and the second child - this year. The Phoenix Fire Department has responded to 10 drowning or near-drowning calls; six of them involving children.
