A 13-month-old boy died Tuesday night after his mother found him floating face-down in the backyard pool of their home in Peoria, police said.
Officers received an emergency call at 8:36 p.m., said Officer Jay Davies of the Peoria Police Department. When they arrived at the home at 71st Avenue and Ironwood Drive, the boy was not breathing.
Police immediately performed CPR, but the boy still had no pulse. He was flown by helicopter to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m., Davies said.
It was unclear how long the boy was in the water, but Davies said his mother realized she had not seen him for about five minutes when she began searching.
Police believe he may have entered the backyard through a doggie door.
